These pages are showing the relationship of Ophrys sphegodes s.l. and arachnitiformis s.l.,
which are occurring in Western Europe, i.e. from Spain, via France, Central Europe, Italy
including the big islands, to Croatia.
The sequence of the species tries to follow the (supposed) relationship
between them. Probably the origin of some of the arachnitiforme species is based on
hybridisation with species of the
Closely related Ophrys, which are pollinated by the same bee species, are named in subspecies rank.
If you click on a species name in the left frame's menu, you get a short description and several thumbnails of images. The thumbnails can also be clicked to get separate windows with the images in bigger size, which are always presented in groups of two. This way images of several species can be simultaneously on the screen, for example for comparision.
