Im Gegensatz zur eigentlichen Zottel-Wicke Vicia villosa ist die Bunte Wicke anliegend kurzhaarig.

In contrast to the actual Hairy Vetch Vicia villosa, Vicia villosa subsp. varia is clingingly short haired.
