Ophrys serotina ROLLI ex PAULUS

Genus: Ophrys L.

Ophrys serotina was collected by ROLLI in the Monti Lepini in 1863, and invalidly published by CORTESI in 1910 according to Rolli's description. It is rather similar to Ophrys apennina, described by ROMOLINI and SOCA from Latium in 2011. PAULUS validated the species in 2000.
In 2000, too, PAULUS considered to classify a small-flowered Late Spider Orchid with often green petals from Istria to Ophrys serotina, but this didn't prove to be correct. But it should be checked, whether Ophrys posidonia belongs to the same species.

	Ophrys:	Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
	serotina:	late flowering
	apennina:	from the Appennins (Italian mountain range)
	posidonia:	from Paestum, Posidonia of the ancient Greek
