| Genus names can be abbreviated by 3 letters, e.g. Bel peren | |||
| Ophrys apifera HUDS. var. badensis L.LEWIS & KREUTZ | ||||
| Fam.: Orchidaceae / Orchid Family |
| Genus: Ophrys L. |
The variety of the bee orchid with big sepal-like petals but normal drawing on the lip has been called
Ophrys apifera var. friburgensis for decades of years, until Helmut Baumann proved in 'Die Orchideen Deutschlands' (2005) that this name means
a variety with brown blotches on a light yellow lip, i.e. the bee orchid with a decomposed speculum on the lip,
which up to now has been called Ophrys botteronii.
So the variety mentioned above with normal lip became nameless, and has been described in 2012
as Ophrys apifera var. badensis by Lewis and Kreutz in J.Eur.Orch. 44 (2) since its holotype
originates from Freiburg im Breisgau (Baden, SW Germany).
