Die Kirschpflaume besitzt runde gelbe oder rötliche Früchte, deren Fruchtfleisch sich meist schlecht vom Stein löst, allerdings ist dies kein sicheres Kriterium. Eine sichere Unterscheidung von der Mirabelle Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca ist über die Behaarung der Blattunterseiten und der jungen Zweige möglich, diese sind bei der Kirschpflaume kahl (nur im Frühjahr die Blattrippen der Unterseite behaart). Im Gegensatz zur Zwetschge tragen die Zweige Dornen. Die Blüten stehen meist einzeln, und ihre Stiele sind nicht behaart. Sie stammt vom Balkan und Kleinasien, und ist die Veredelungs-Grundlage vieler Pflaumensorten. Die Kirschpflaume blüht als erster aller Obstbäume bereits im März. Für Gärten und Parks gibt es auch Zierformen mit dunkelroten Blättern.

The Cherry Plum has round yellow or reddish fruits, of which the pulp usually badly looses from the kernel, although this is not a reliable criterion. It can be reliably distinguished from the Mirabelle Cherry Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca by the pilosity of the undersides of the leaves and the young twigs, at the Cherry Plum they are glabrous (only in spring on the underside the leaf veins are hairy). In contrast to the Plum, the branches have thorns. The blooms are usually solitary and their peduncles are not hairy. It comes from the Balkans and Asia Minor. It is the basis for grafting of many Culture Plums. The Cherry Plum is the first of all fruit trees to flower, as early as March. There are also ornamental forms with dark red leaves for gardens and parks.
