Most of the Snowdrops that grow in Germany, regardless of whether they are cultivated in gardens or run wild out of gardens, come from a Western European clan that forms large stocks with daughter bulbs (from Fig. 6). Snowdrops were also originally native to Southern Germany and are still present today, for example in valleys of the Schwäbische Alb, however, now mainly distributed in the Eastern Alps and Eastern Europe. These multiply mainly by seed, and therefore mostly occur as single plants (Fig. 1 to 5). The flowers of the two clans are indistinguishable.
