Die attraktive Degenia velebitica ist ein seltener Endemit von Nord-Kroatien, und wohl eines der nationalen Symbole des Landes, denn sie ist auf der kroatischen 50 Lipa Münze abgebildet. Sie blüht früh, je nach Höhe im April oder Mai. Die abgebildete blühende Pflanze habe ich im Botanischen Garten der Universität Mainz zu einer untypischen Zeit fotografieren können. Die nicht-blühende Pflanze wächst im Botanischen Garten des Velebit am Berg Zavizan.

The attractive Degenia velebitica is a rare endemism of Northern Croatia, and seems to be one if the national symbols of the country, because it is shown on the Croatian 50 Lipa coin. It is early in flower, in April and May depending on altitude. I photographed the plant in flower in the Botanical Garden of the University of Mainz, Germany, in a non-typical season. The non-flowering plant grows in the Botanical Garden of the Velebit at the Zavivan mountain.
