Rubus: | Roman name of Rubus species
procerus: | very tall | ||
Rubus procerus has been held for identical with the Northern-Italian Rubus praecox BERTOL. for longer time, but there are differences: Rubus procerus has an (inverse) egg-shaped end leaf with usually long tip > 1 cm, rounded base, and sharp rough serrature, while the end leaf of Rubus praecox is wider with short tip, heart-shaped ground and fine serrature. The inflorescence of Rubus procerus has inclined upward standing branches with hooked prickles and leaves up to the upper part, while the inflorescence of Rubus praecox has +/- rectangular branches with straight prickles but without leaves in the upper 20 centimeters.
