Lange galten die Meerzwiebeln im ganzen Mittelmeergebiet und dessen Umgebung als eine Art
Urginea maritima, obwohl bekannt war, dass die Zwiebeln in verschiedenen Regionen verschiedene
Form, verschiedene Farbe der Schale und des Fleischs, verschiedene Inhaltsstoffe, sowie verschiedene
Chromosomenzahlen besitzen. Erst 1980 wurde von FRANZ SPETA die Trennung in verschiedene Arten konsequent in Angriff genommen:
Ebenfalls SPETA prägte 1998 den Gattungsnamen Charybdis für die Meerzwiebeln rund ums Mittelmeer, während MANNING und GOLDBLATT sie mit afrikanischen Drimia-Arten vereinigten.
For long time the Sea Squills in the whole Mediterranean and adjacent regions were taken as one species Urginea maritima,
althouth it was known that the onions in different regions have different form, different color of the skin and flesh, different
substances, and different chromosome numbers. In 1980 FRANZ SPETA started to launch the separation into different species:
Also SPETA chose the genus name Charybdis for the Mediterranian Sea Squills in 1998, while MANNING and GOLDBLATT united these with African Drimia species. | ||
