Die schmalblättige Unterart des Knoten-Beinwells Symphytum tuberosum subsp. tuberosum wird von manchen Florenwerken nicht anerkannt, also nicht von der Nominat-Unterart unterschieden. Die schmaleren Blätter sind auch nicht das bestimmende Merkmal zu Abtrennung, sondern eher, dass der Blütenstand der subsp. angustifolium wenigblütig (bis 9 Blüten) ist, und dass der Stängel wenigblättrig (bis 7 Blätter) ist.

The narrow-leaved subspecies of the Tuberous Comfrey Symphytum tuberosum subsp. tuberosum is not recognized by some floristic works, i.e. not distinguished from the nominate subspecies. The narrower leaves are not the determining characteristic for separation, but rather that the inflorescence of the subsp. angustifolium has few flowers (up to 9) and that the stem has few leaves (up to 7).
