Polygonum centrale wurde von Bomble 2022 in Veröff. Bochumer Bot. Ver. 14(6) 63-77 beschrieben, der Artikel ist auch im entsprechenden Jahrbuch für das Jahr 2022 des Vereins enthalten. Es ist eine zwischen Polygonum arenastrum und Polygonum aviculare stehende stabile Sippe, die in Aachen und seiner Umgebung gefunden wurde, außerdem bei Meerbusch-Nierst im Kreis Neuss und bei Udenbreth im Kreis Euskirchen, weitere Funde sind zu erwarten. Die Wuchsform ist oft kräftiger als bei Polygonum aviculare. Die Blätter können breit sein wie bei Polygonum aviculare, sind aber von grüner Farbe (und nicht graugrün wie bei Polygonum arenastrum). Die Blüten sind tief geteilt wie bei Polygonum aviculare. Er blüht später auf als Polygonum aviculare, etwa gleichzeitig mit Polygonum arenastrum.
