Zur Unterscheidung der Weißwurz-Arten der Gattung Polygonatum:
Polygonatum odoratum besitzt vorwiegend einzelne Blüten, bei den anderen Arten hängen an den Blütenpositionen jeweils Gruppen von 2 bis 5 Blüten. Polygonatum verticillatum besitzt schmale Blätter, die anderen beiden mehrblütigen Arten ovale Blätter. Nur in Osteuropa (in Österreich nur im Pannonicum) kommt Polygonatum latifolium vor, dessen Stängel und teilweise auch die Blattunterseiten behaart sind, während Polygonatum multiflorum mit seinen unbehaarten Stängeln und Blättern in ganz Europa vorkommt. Die Blätter der Polygonatum latifolium-Pflanzen am Hundsheimer Berg bei Hainburg waren an der Ober- und Unterseite glänzender als ich es jemals bei Polygonatum multiflorum oder Polygonatum odoratum gesehen habe, doch dieses Merkmal wird nicht allgemein angegeben.

On the distinction of the Polygonatum species:
Polygonatum odoratum has predominantly single flowers; the other species have groups of 2 to 5 flowers at the flower positions. Polygonatum verticillatum has narrow leaves, the other two multi-flowered species have oval leaves. Polygonatum latifolium, whose stems and sometimes also the undersides of the leaves are hairy, occurs only in Eastern Europe (in Austria only in the Pannonicum), while Polygonatum multiflorum with its hairless stems and leaves occurs throughout whole Europe. The leaves of the Polygonatum latifolium plants at the Hundsheim Mountain near Hainburg were on both the top and bottom sides more shiny than I have it ever seen at Polygonatum multiflorum or Polygonatum odoratum, but this characteristic is not generally reported.
