Ophrys arnoldii wurde erst 1999 in Natural.belges 80 (Orchid. 12): 244-260+277 beschrieben. Ihr Name ehrt den Lehrer José Enrique Arnold aus Manresa in Katalonien, der die vorbereitenden Untersuchungen in seiner Region durchführte. Die Art kommt wohl nur in Spanien vor.
Die Lippe der Ophrys arnoldii steht oft steiler als die der Ophrys forestieri (Synonym: Ophrys lupercalis), aber sonst sieht sie aus wie diese viel früher blühende Art. Das ist auch kein Wunder, denn Ophrys arnoldii wird von der gleichen Biene Andrena nigroaenea bestäubt, allerdings von deren zweiter Generation.

Ophrys arnoldii has been described not until 1999 in Natural.belges 80 (Orchid. 12): 244-260+277. Its name honours the teacher José Enrique Arnold from Manresa in Catalonia, who executed the preparing investigations in his region. Most probably the orchid is only occurring in Spain.
Ophrys arnoldii holds its lip often more steep than Ophrys forestieri (synonym: Ophrys lupercalis), but otherwise it's looking like this species, which is much earlier in flower. This is no wonder, because Ophrys arnoldii is pollinated by the same bee Andrena nigroaenea, however by the second generation of the bee.
