Onobrychis caput-galli ist im ganzen Mittelmeergebiet und im Nahen Osten verbreitet. Sie ist kleinblütig (7-8 mm). Abgesehen von einem lang behaarten Rand sind ihre Blätter auf der Oberseite kahl. Sie tragen vorne eine kleine Stachelspitze. Die Früchte von Onobrychis caput-galli tragen lange Stacheln, was sie von denen der ähnlichen Arten Onobrychis aequidentata und Onobrychis crista-galli unterscheidet. Die ebenfalls weit verbreitete Onobrychis aequidentata ist großblütiger als Onobrychis caput-galli mit einem auffällig langen Blütenstiel.

Onobrychis caput-galli is distributed throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. It has small flowers (7-8 mm). Apart from a long haired edge, the leaves are glabrous on the upper side. They carry a small spiked tip in front. The fruits of Onobrychis caput-galli have long spikes, distinguishing them from those of the similar species Onobrychis aequidentata and Onobrychis crista-galli. The also widespread Onobrychis aequidentata is larger-flowered than Onobrychis caput-galli with a striking long flower stalk.
