Allium atroviolaceum ist dem häufigeren Allium sphaerocephalon recht ähnlich. Allium atroviolaceum hat allerdings Blätter von bis zu 12 mm Breite (Allium sphaerocephalon nur bis 4 mm) und einen langen Schnabel an der Blütenscheide (Hülle um den Blütenstand), die nur an einer Stelle aufreißt und meist bald abfällt. Bei Allium sphaerocephalon reißt die Blütenscheide an zwei Stellen auf und die beiden Teile bleiben oft noch recht lange an der Unterseite der Blüte hängen.

Allium atroviolaceum is rather similar to the more frequent Allium sphaerocephalon. Allium atroviolaceum however has leaves of up to 12 mm width (Allium sphaerocephalon only up to 4 mm) and a long beak at the spathe, which ruptures at only one location and usually falls down soon. In Allium sphaerocephalon the spathe tears open at two locations, and the two parts often remain quite long hanging underneath the flower.
