Neben der Weißen Waldhyazinthe Platanthera bifolia und der Grünlichen Waldhyazinthe Platanthera chlorantha gibt es in Mitteleuropa eine weitere Waldhyazinthen-Art, die genetisch ganz klar getrennt ist, wie Untersuchungen der Universität Heidelberg zusammen mit dem AHO Baden-Württemberg 2021 bis 2025 zeigten. Das Ehepaar BAUM aus Nordrhein-Westfalen hatte diese Art 2017 als Platanthera muelleri beschrieben. Doch die Existenz dieser dritten Art in Mitteleuropa war keine wirklich neue Erkenntnis, denn HERMANN MÜLLER (1829-1883), nach dem sie diese benannten, und WILHELM LUDWIG PETERMANN (1806-1855) hatten die Existenz dieser dritten Art schon im 19. Jahrhundert erkannt. PETERMANN hatte sie 1846 in seinem 'Analytischen Pflanzenschlüssel für botanische Excursionen in der Umgegend von Leipzig' Seite 591/592 auch schon als Platanthera pervia benannt, nach dem wie bei Platanthera chlorantha offen sichtbaren Sporneingang dieser Art. Die beiden Pollinien stehen nicht parallel und nicht so nahe zusammen wie bei Platanthera bifolia, und auch nicht so schräg und weit auseinander wie bei Platanthera chlorantha, sondern nehmen eine Stellung dazwischen ein. Diese Art ist in Europa weit verbreitet, nicht nur in Norddeutschland, den Niederlanden und Belgien, sondern auch die lange ungeklärte 'südbadische Streuwiesensippe' der südlichen Oberrheinischen Tiefebene gehört dazu, wie auch andere Populationen in Süddeutschland und viele Populationen in den Alpen. Vermutlich ist auch die 2015 beschriebene süditalienische Platanthera bifolia subsp. osca R.LORENZ, ROMOLINI, V.A.ROMANO & SOCA dazu zu rechnen, die 2022 in Platanthera osca BIAGNOLI, KREUTZ & DE SIMONI umkombiniert wurde. Auch in der Türkei soll es solche Pflanzen geben.

In addition to the Lesser Butterfly Orchid Platanthera bifolia and the Greater Butterfly Orchid Platanthera chlorantha there is another species of Butterfly Orchid in Central Europe available, that is genetically clearly separate, as investigations by the University of Heidelberg together with the AHO Baden-Württemberg 2021 bis 2025 showed. The BAUM couple from North Rhine-Westphalia had described the species as Platanthera muelleri in 2017. This species is widespread in Europe, not only in Northern Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, but also the long-unexplained 'stable-litter meadow clan' in the southern Upper Rhine Valley belongs to it, as do several other populations in Southern Germany and many populations in the Alps. The southern Italian Platanthera bifolia subsp. osca R.LORENZ, ROMOLINI, V.A.ROMANO & SOCA, described in 2015 and re-combined to Platanthera osca BIAGNOLI, KREUTZ & DE SIMONI in 2022, belongs probably also to this species. Also in Turkey this kind of plants shall be available.
