Etymology: | |||
Sorbus: | Roman name of the Service Tree Sorbus domestica, from sorbere = to slurp
isenacensis: | from Eisenach (Thüringen, Germany)
As decribed in 'Meyer, N., Gregor, T., Meierott, L. & Paule, J. (2014): Diploidy suggests hybrid origin and sexuality in Sorbus subgen. Tormaria from Thuringia, Central Germany' the local endemic Sorbus clans from Thuringia Sorbus acutiloba, Sorbus acutisecta, Sorbus heilingensis, Sorbus isenacensis, Sorbus multicrenata, and Sorbus parumlobata are all diploid and not apomictic, and propagate sexually. So today they have to be seen as synonyms of Sorbus x decipiens ( = Karpatisorbus x hybrida). Those hybrids from Thuringia have fertile seed and create small populations, which initially lead to the wrong suspicion to be apomictic as several Sorbus clans in more western regions. For the Franconian Sorbus cochleariformis and Sorbus x vagensis applies the same as for the Thuringian ones mentioned above.
