Etymology:
   Silene:   Silen, Greek legendary figure
   exscapa:   scape-less
 

Silene exscapa is growing on mountains with primary rocks (silicate). A similar 'parallel species', which is growing on calcareous mountains, is Silene acaulis, that has somewhat wider petals.
