The Eastern-alpine Senecio rupestris is rather similar to and also crossible with the

from the parents Senecio aetnensis JAN ex DC. and
Senecio chrysanthemifolius POIR., it grows in lava fields of the Etna in Sicily (Italy).
Already in the beginning of the 18th century Senecio squalidus has been sent to the Botanical Garden in Oxford,
where it ran wild soon. Later it distributed to further parts of England along the railway lines.
Linné described Senecio squalidus according to plants from Oxford.
