Vorige Art/previous species (Left arrowball from Animation City 1991)     Scilla nivalis  BOISS.  ?     Nächste Art/next species (Right arrowball from Animation City 1991)

APG-Fam.: Asparagacae / Asparagus Fam.       Fam. tradit.: Liliaceae / Lily Fam.

Genus:  Scilla  L.

Authors:
BOISS.:  Pierre Edmond Boissier (1810 - 1885), Swiss botanist
L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals

Etymology:
Scilla:   Greek name of the Sea Squill Charybdis maritima
   nivalis:   snow

The budding plant from Samos seems very puzzling to me because Scilla bifolia s.str. does not occur in Greece, and the Scilla bifolia-like species mentioned for the East Aegean islands in 'Vascular Plants of Greece - An annotated Checklist' Scilla nivalis, Scilla longistylosa, and Scilla voethorum have all very narrow leaves of 4 to 10 mm width, but the leaves on the photo are looking wider.

At the photos with question mark I'm not sure on the correct determination. If you have an idea you can simply write it here and send it (max. 300 characters):
