Usually the flowers of wild plants of Scabiosa atropurpurea are bright colored as those of other Scabious species. For gardens dark purple forms have been breeded, too, as shown in the last photos. The calyx bristles of young plants are purple. Scabiosa maritima, which occurs in Italy, is considered by some authors to be a subspecies or variety of Scabiosa atropurpurea. | ||
