Vorige Art/previous species (Left arrowball from Animation City 1991)     Pinguicula hirtiflora  TEN.     Nächste Art/next species (Right arrowball from Animation City 1991)

Fam.: Lentibulariaceae / Bladderwort Fam.

Genus:  Pinguicula  L.

Authors:
TEN.:  Michele Tenore (1780 - 1861), Italian botanist at Naples
L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals

Etymology:
Pinguicula:   diminutive of pinguis = fat (shiny leaves)
   hirtiflora:   bristle-flowered

Pinguicula hirtiflora is treated as a species by the Flora Europaea. But in later literature it is taken as subspecies of Pinguicula crystallina from Cyprus, which I can't understand because the plants are very different. Perhaps the Pinguicula hirtiflora populations, which are mentioned between the French Alpes and Greek mountains, aren't the same species.
