Authors:
   L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals
 

Etymology:
   Myriophyllum:   myrios = thousand, phyllon = leaf
   verticillatum:   whorled
 

The plant grows in shallow water, its flowers are jutting out of the water. The female blossoms have four feathery stigmas (see Fig. 8 - 9), the male blossoms consist of eight stamens (Fig. 2 - 6). The fruits (Fig. 7) are containing four seed compartments.
