Etymology: | |||
Muscari: | Arabic plant name, from 'smelling of musk'
inconstrictum: | blossom not constricted at the front
Pseudomuscari: | pseudos = false, genus Muscari
Muscari inconstrictum occurs from Cyprus to Iraq and Iran. The populations in the mainland of Ancient Near East belong to a group of Muscari with open campanulate blossoms at the front, which has been separated from the big genus Muscari as genus Pseudomuscari by GARBARI and GREUTER. However especially this attribute is not pronounced at the populations on the island of Cyprus, so I wouldn't be surprised if these would be decribed as an own species under genus Muscari in future.
