Miscanthus sinensis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus, which both originate frm East Asia, are used as ornamental plants in Europe.
The spikelet of Miscanthus sinensis has an awn (in Fig. 3, 11, and 28 above the spikelets),
the spikelet of Miscanthus sacchariflorus does not.
There are also cultivated forms of Miscanthus sinensis with light lengthwise (Fig. 6, 21, and 22) or across stripes on the leaves.
The plant of the narrow-leaved cultivar 'Gracillimus' in the first pictures Fig. 1 to 14 has sowed by itself in a courtyard driveway, the other photos show cultivated plants.
In addition to these two species used as ornamental grasses, the hybrid of both, Miscanthus x giganteus J.M.GREEF & DEUTER ex HODK. & RENVOIZE
is cultivated as an energy crop, it grows up to 4 meters high with leaves more than 3 centimeters wide.
