Vorige Art/previous species (Left arrowball from Animation City 1991)     Glebionis coronaria  (L.) TZVELEV         Nächste Art/next species (Right arrowball from Animation City 1991)

Fam.: Asteraceae / Composite Fam.

Synon.:  Chrysanthemum coronarium  L.

Genus:  Glebionis  CASS.,  Chrysanthemum  L.

Authors:
L.:  Carl von Linné (Linnaeus, 1707 - 1777), Swedish naturalist who introduced the binary naming system for plants and animals
TZVELEV:  Nikolai Nikolaievich Tzvelev (1925 - 2015), Russian botanist
CASS.:  Alexandre Henri Gabriel de Cassini (1781 - 1832), French botanist

Etymology:
Glebionis:   the meaning of this name is unknown
   coronaria:   crown-like
Chrysanthemum:   chrysos = gold, anthemos = bloom

The former genus name Chrysanthemum has been conserved for the plants of the Chrysanthemum indicum group, which are grown in gardens. The shown Crown Daisies have been assigned to genus Glebionis.
The normal two-colored bloom belongs to Glebionis coronarium var. discolor. On the left image few Glebionis coronarium var. coronarium with completely yellow flower can be seen, too, as on the photos from Lesbos and Cyprus.
