Etymology:
   Crocus:   Greek name of Saffron
   tommasinianus:   Muzio Giuseppe Spirito de Tommasini (1794 - 1879), Italian politician and botanist (TOMM. )
   vernus:   spring
 

If Crocus tommasinianus and Crocus vernus s.l. occur together, e.g. in older parks or cemeteries, hybridization may occur over time. In order to recognize this, the different attributes of the two species are listed here:

If these attributes are mixed, e.g. broad tepals on slender plants with white tube (Fig. 1), or relatively narrow tepals on a tube colored above (most other Fig.), then it should be spontaneous hybrids or a hybrid population.
