The Saffron Crocus sativus is a triploid and therefore non-fertile mutation of the Crocus cartwrightianus from the Aegean. In cultures it is propagated by dividing the tuber. The Saffron Crocus is blooming in October. Then the red three-part stigmas, which are considered the most expensive spice in the world, are removed out of the fresh flowers. | ||
