The compilation 'Vascular Plants of Greece, An annotated Checklist', which has been issued in 2013 by the Botanical Gardens of Berlin and the Hellenic Botanical Society of Athens, integrates the former three continental subspecies of Crocus sieberi, namely Crocus sieberi subsp. nivalis from Mount Taygetos in Southern Peloponnesos, Crocus sieberi subsp. atticus from Eastern Central Greece, and Crocus sieberi subsp. sublimis from the mountains in the West of Greece, into one species Crocus nivalis, und leaves the real Crocus sieberi separately as endemic species of Crete. | ||
