Several tens of years ago a small Cardamine has been discovered in paddy fields in Japan, which has been held for Cardamine flexuosa WITH. which had been described in Europe already in the 18th century. At least since 2004 this Asian plant occurs also at Lake Constance in Central Europe, and only after that it became clear that it is however different, e.g. it has no leaf rosette. So provisionally it was called Cardamine flexuosa auct. non WITH. Since then the plant new to Europe distributed rapidly, in between about 100 occurrences are known around Lake Constance. In the Netherlands, Belgium, the adjacent West of Germany and other European countries it has also been found, spread out of garden centers. In between it is clear that its correct name is Cardamine occulta which has been described in 1819 from East Asia. In 1831 it has again been described as Cardamine hamiltonii, in 1903 as Cardamine flexuosa subsp. debilis, but it seems to be more reasonable to keep it in the species rank. | ||
