Etymology:
   Allium:   Roman name of Garlic
   canariense:   from the Canary Islands
 

According to the article "Allium canariense (Amaryllidaceae), a species endemic to the Canary Islands" of the German botanists FRIESEN, HERDEN, and SCHÖNFELDER (2015) in Phytotaxa 221 (1) there is only one species of the Allium Molium section existing in the Canary Islands, the newly described Allium canariense, and not the four species Allium roseum, Allium subvillosum, Allium subhirsutum, and Allium trifoliatum which formerly had been mentioned for the islands.
