Plants of the Reiss-Insel at Mannheim
The 'Reiss-Island' is a natural habitat and recreation area near Mannheim with riparian woods and orchards, situated south of the city in a dead branch of river Rhine. In 1916 the owner Carl Reiss donated it to the City of Mannheim. Condition was that the natural condition has to be maintained. In 1950 it became a nature reserve.
 
The old Silver Willows are slowly pushed away by the Ash-Leaf Elder, which was introduced from North America and which grows faster.
