Ophrys truncata was described by DULAC in 1867 from Mauléon-Magnoac, which is located in the south-west of France in the northern part of departement Hautes-Pyrènèes. Most of the sites in this region can today be found some kilometers to north in departement Gers. DELFORGE assumed Ophrys truncata to be an invalid name, and described the species again in 1996 under the name Ophrys aegirtica. In the second edition of his field guide he later counted Ophrys druentica to Ophrys aegirtica, too. As pollinator in departement Gers he found Eucera hispanica, which is called Eucera ephippia today, this bee is different from the pollinator of the middle-european Ophrys holoserica.
