Etymology:
Ophrys:   Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
   linearis:   linear (petals)
   pseudoscolopax:   similar to Ophrys scolopax

Ophrys linearis (MOGGRIDGE 1869) P.DELFORGE, P.DEVILLERS & J.DEVILLERS-TERSCHUREN (2000), also called Ophrys pseudosolopax (MOGGRIDGE 1869) PAULUS & GACK (1999), is the small early holoserica with sharp petals from sites near the coast of the Provence and most probably of the most north-western part of neighbouring Italy.
Remy SOUCHE in his book 'Les Orchidées sauvages de France' (2004) assigns the orchids from the coast to the small flowered Ophrys holoserica subsp. lorenae, which has been described from Emilia Romagna in Italy, but I can't follow this apprehension.
