Etymology:
   Ophrys:   Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
   lepida:   gracious
 

The Sardian species from the subfusca group has been described in 2005 by Sylviane and Jean-Marc Moingeon in L'Orchidophile 166 Vol.36(3):173-178.
