Etymology:
   Ophrys:   Greek plant name, from ophrys = eyebrow
   apifera:   bearing bees
   basiliensis:   from Basel
 

This variety of the bee orchid has been described by S.SCHWEGLER and D.MATTHIES in 2004 in Orchid Review 112 (no. 1258): 214-217 + 153-154(figs.).
