In 2004 the eastern spanish plants were separated by DELFORGE as Epipactis molochina in Natural.belges 85 (Orchid.17). Several details shall be different from Epipactis distans, e.g. the more colourful petals. Indeed the Spanish plants are partly slightly influenced by Epipactis cardina, which occurs at the same sites, and both species are pollinated by the same wasps. Nevertheless one should grant a certain variability especially to Epipactis species, so for me Epipactis molochina is a non-necessary synonym of Epipactis distans.
